April 26, 2013

Only 25 days of school remain!!!!

As we reminisce over this school year, our hearts are full of gratitude for the partnership we have enjoyed with each family and for the Lord’s many blessings for the school.  The month May is packed full with many class and year end activities and trips, awards ceremonies and banquets, senior trip, and ending with graduation on May 31st.  Even amidst the hustle and bustle, and yes even the stress of May, we pray you will experience the fullness of God’s grace during this special time in the school year.

Did you see Dr. Mroczek and Elon Richardson in the newspaper today?   The elementary classes experienced getting their hands in the dirt and planting vegetable seeds in the garden located on the Gaither Property near Dr. and Mrs. Mroczek’s home.   Dr. Mroczek eagerly anticipates this event each year as it affords him the opportunity to share his love of the outdoors with the elementary students, while at the same time using the illustration of planting seeds in the ground in relation to planting God’s Word in our hearts.

Keep your eye on the Sunday newspaper for the next three weeks to see articles Dr. Mroczek has written regarding his recent China trip.

We are entering the year-end push to reach our goal for the 2012-2013 Annual Fund.    All families will be receiving a note from the school next week and we ask that you prayerfully consider helping us with a strong finish to this year’s annual fund.

Athletics
TONIGHT is Senior Night for Baseball, Softball, and Tennis.   You should have received an email earlier in the week notifying you of this occasion and the opportunity you will also have to enjoy a hot dog dinner in support of the senior “Feed a Village” project.

The schedule for all final seasonal games and play-offs will be posted under the “athletics” tab on the school’s website.

Year-End Contribution Statements
You may expect to receive your 2012 Year-End Contribution Statement by mail within the next week.   We are deeply grateful for your generous gifts of time and resources as you support SCS’s mission of training students, in partnership with families, to think, live, love, and lead as Christians through programs of academic excellence based on a biblical worldview.  If you have any questions about your contribution statement, please contact Nicole McCoy at 704-873-9511, ext 2222.   Again, we are blessed by your generosity and hope you will continue to support the educational ministry here at SCS.

Re-Enrollment for 2013-2014!
The business office has issued the February statements which include the 2013-2014 re-enrollment fee for all currently enrolled K-11th grade students.  A non-refundable re-enrollment fee of $500 per student, with a family maximum of $1,000, is due during the annual re-enrollment period for each returning student.  SCS will apply half of the re-enrollment fee toward the first month’s tuition if payment is received or postmarked by February 10, 2013.

Tuition Assistance
In keeping with our commitment to partner with parents, the SCS board of directors and administration desire to make the exceptional educational offering at SCS available to as many families as possible.  Therefore, we are honored to offer need-based tuition assistance.  We have contracted with Independent School Management (ISM) to help determine the family’s level of need for tuition assistance through their “FAST” tuition assistance application process.   You may access the tuition assistance application on our school’s website:   Go to www.statesvillechristian.org; click on the “academics” tab, and then “tuition assistance” on the pull down menu.   From this page, you can click on the FAST icon in the upper right hand corner of the page to begin the application.  The application process requires the completion of your 2012 income tax return.   All applications completed by the March 15th deadline will be considered in the first round of tuition assistance distributions.  The 2013-2014 tuition assistance budget is limited, so families are strongly encouraged to apply early.  The application process is on-line, so will require computer access.   If you do not have a computer available to use, please contact the school office, and we will be happy to provide you with a work station on campus so you may complete the tuition assistance application.

Elementary & Middle School Second Quarter Grades have been finalized.    You may access your child’s grades by logging into power school under the parents tab, enter your login and password information, and click on “grade history” on the left side menu options.     Finalized Winterim grades for high school are still pending.

Dear SCS Parents,

December Match Challenge Met!

To date, our 2012-2013 Annual Fund total stands at approximately $92,500, plus pledges! Our goal for the Annual Fund- which supports tuition assistance for our families - is $250,000 by July 1, 2013. Please prayerfully consider letting your light shine through joyful participation in this fine SCS tradition.

Re-Enrollment for 2013-2014!
Since it is only early January, you may not be thinking of August 2013 yet, but we are! The re-enrollment period for the 2013-2014 school year opens on January 22nd. In response to your parental input, we will be simplifying and improving the re-enrollment process. Please be on the lookout for an email letter early next week that will outline and explain the new and improved re-enrollment process for the coming school year.

Admissions Open House – Sunday, January 13th, 12:30-2:30 p.m.
As you have heard us say many times before, YOU are our best marketing tool for the school. Bring or refer a new family to this Sunday’s open house, and you will qualify for a special prize!

PE Uniform Store
The Nike Store will be open for PE uniform purchases soon.

Review of Campus Security
In light of the recent tragedy in Connecticut, we are reviewing our campus security procedures and drills. The Statesville Police Department is also working closely with SCS in January to assess our security and to make recommendations for improvements. You may see a squad car routinely driving through our parking lot in the future, as the police presence is increased. These actions are not in response to any specific concerns, but simply reflect our desire to take prudent and reasonable actions on behalf of our families.

Elementary Book Fair “Story Laboratory – Reading Gives You Super Power” - February 4th - 8th
The Book Fair hours will be on the SCS website soon. You may anticipate the fair being open every day after school. Families may visit the book fair and shop from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7th, following the Elementary Speech Performance Night. Parent volunteers are needed to help set up, to work each day, to work during the Family Event, and to take down the fair. Contact Mrs. Jennifer Parker to volunteer (cell 704-838-6502, email jparker@statesvillechristian.org) or call the school and leave a voice mail. Let's make this Fair a huge success like last year!

Notes of Thanks:
From the administration, we thank you for the honor of being a part of a community of believers who let their light shine and act as the hands and feet of Christ in ministering in such tangible ways to those in our community who are suffering.

It is with gratitude and appreciation that I write this thank you note to my SCS family. Words cannot express the thanks my family and I feel for all the prayers, love, food, gift cards, sympathy cards, and kind words following the passing of my father. The love and grace of God is so evident in each and every one of you. Again, thank you for the love and kindness shown to all of us.

In Christ,
Wendy, Brittney, and Ian Clark / Nita and Kerry Waters

November 29, 2012

Dear SCS Parents,

With the close of November, we enter the very busy month of December.   Although schedules often become packed with many holiday events, we trust you will set aside time to celebrate with your family the greatest gift – when the “Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

Shine Your Light during our December Match Challenge!
We have a December Match Challenge between now and December 31st!  Every dollar given towards our Annual Fund will be matched dollar for dollar up to $18,000, but only until 12/31.  Our Annual Fund supports tuition assistance for our families and our needs are great. We need your help now to meet this match challenge! So far this year, friends of SCS have given and pledged approximately $65,000 towards our Annual Fund goal of $250,000. Thank you!  Please consider making a tax-deductible gift to SCS and making a positive difference for our SCS children. If you have not given yet, now is time!

Inclement Weather Notifications
SCS closings due to bad weather will not necessarily correspond to those of the Iredell-Statesville Schools.  In times of emergency, parents will be notified of school closing or other emergency measures through the SCS automated phone tree, the SCS website (www.statesvillechristian.org), a message on the school’s main phone line, and the following radio and television stations:
·         WSOC TV
·         WBTV
·         WSIC Radio (1400AM)
Parents always have the option of keeping students home if they consider the roads hazardous.  We encourage parents not to allow young drivers on ice or snow covered roads.

Addressing Today’s Cultural Issues
The SCS High School students had a unique opportunity on Wednesday, November 28th to hear from Dr. Michael Brown speak and then participate in a question and answer time.  Dr. Brown has spoken all over the world on various Christian issues and does a two hour national radio program every day.  He challenged our students to be ready for what the culture is throwing at them, especially as it pertains to homosexual issues.  The students responded very well and had over a half hour's worth of questions for him.
